What is SolarPunk?

“we are solar punk because the only other options are denial or despair."
- Adam Flynn

Solarpunk is a movement that comes with an aesthetic.
It seeks to provide an alternative to the dark futures that have dominated our imaginations in recent decades.
In our article "What is solarpunk? One thing or many?" we argue there are many different shades of solarpunk.
We believe all shades of solarpunk need to show futures that are:
  • Desirably sustainable - These are visions of the future we could get excited about living in, not nightmares to avoid.
  • More socially just - Broadly speaking these are more equal, fair and inclusive worlds than the one we live in now.
  • Inspire action - The greatest promise of solarpunk is it will encourage more people to get moving to make these better futures a reality.
For more on what solarpunk is, isn’t and why it matters read our article here.
